Greene King optimistic about smoking ban

30 January 2007

The Scottish smokefree legislation was "going better than expected", according to Rooney Anand, the chief executive of Greene King. He said he was hopeful that the pub group would survive relatively unscathed when the ban comes south later this year.

Greene King, which bought the Scottish pub group Belhaven last year, said that its high street pubs in Scotland, and those with outside areas, had done well, with food sales up strongly, although alcohol sales were down.
