Pub boosted by smokefree legislation

23 March 2007

Some Jersey landlords are saying trade has improved three months into the introduction of smokefree legislation.

From the beginning of the year, anyone smoking in pubs, clubs and restaurants, or businesses failing to enforce the law, can be fined up to £5,000.

Sean Murphy, from the Lamplighter pub in Jersey, said he thought the pub was going to be hit hard.

"This pub was a smoky pub, so much so that you could hardly see," he said. "Now it's lovely and clean the feedback has been great."
He said trade had improved and there were more women coming in.
