Thai authorities want smoking ban in pubs

12 January 2007

Health authorities in Thailand are calling for the smokefree legislation to be extended to night entertainment venues, such as pubs and bars. A feasibility study on this extension is under way, said Disease Control Department deputy chief Narong Sahamethapat yesterday.

The amended ban is expected to take effect by August next year at the earliest, will also cover other public venues including marketplaces.
